How fast are your web servers and links?

We do not publish our individual link speeds as often people (mistakenly) relate these to overall performance and performance guarantees when it is impossible to do so! As our requirements have grown (and continue to grow) we have been required to upgrade our Internet links and/or move the location of our servers to ensure a fast and reliable service.

Our current backbone link has multiple 45Mbit/s circuits to the US and includes a redundant link via Ebone and peering for UK traffic at LINX and MANAP. In addition we use seperate Internet feeds for web site traffic and dial up user traffic - this allows us to provide the highest levels of performance and resilience for each. Please see here for more details!

Link utilisation is much more important when assessing overall performance - the link serving our web server traffic currently has an average utilisation of between 15-20% so response times are excellent!

Web servers are load balanced for both bandwidth and CPU loading - this ensures all web servers are given fair and equal access to the Internet.

Domains that we supply with web and / or email services are currently given a default traffic allocation of 500Mb/month - this covers both your web and email traffic (let us know if you anticipate your traffic requirements will exceed this - less than 5% of our accounts do). Should you exceed your standard traffic allocation we would ask that you upgrade your account to one that covers your requirement or pay the standard excess traffic charge (currently only £7.50 per 500Mb traffic per month).

All these factors combined ensure both high performance and "fair" access for all!
