Domain Search

Why Should I Not Use
Frame Based Redirection

Frame based redirection is used to redirect a domain name to web space elsewhere - this is usually to free web space with your dialup ISP.

The main advantages of this are that it is:

  • Less expensive than proper web hosting - we offer the service for £50 per year compared with our full web hosting package for only £95 per year (less than £8 per month) - see Step Two for more details.

  • Your URL always appears as http://www.your-domain-name.com rather than the true URL that may be something like www.freespace.your-isp.com/your-pages

The main disadvantages of this are:

  • Your URL always appears as http://www.your-domain-name.com - this means people cannot see or bookmark the individual URL's on your site.

  • Search engines generally do not like redirected web sites - many will not follow the link to your free space and therefore not index your web site.

  • Search engines that DO follow redirected web sites can generally "see" the proper location of your web pages and if this is on free space again many will not index your pages.

  • Using frames means your web site is automatically using frames (whether you wanted to or not) - not all browsers support frames!

  • When you have a full web hosting service (with your web site on our servers) we can provide very detailed web statistics - these are of great importance to all sites as they let you analyse your most popular pages, least popular pages and where your traffic is coming from! With web forwarding / frame based redirection - as requests to your site are "forwarded" we cannot provide this information for you.

For a live example of frame redirection please go to http://www.frame-redirect.co.uk - this just points back to our main http://www.getonline.co.uk web site but the URL you will see is http://www.frame-redirect.co.uk
