The numbers of domain registrations we are handling is going up greatly - in the first 8 months of this year we experienced increases in the number of registrations of around 30-40%
per month.Since September we have seen this move up another gear and growth has been between 70-120% per month.
In December we are predicting the growth to be around 200%
as in the first week of this month alone we have processed half the number of domains we did in the whole of last month (November was already a record month)!
Again we would just like to assure customers that we have taken measures to
cope with this increase and there should be no delays in processing any registrations.
We feel that much of this growth is due to increasing popularity of the Internet generally but also because of our "fair deal policy"
on domain name registration. Many people have seen lower cost domain registration charges (there is even one company offering .uk names for "free") but as usual there is a catch - these can include:
- Prices quoted for domain registration are per year (not per 2 years)
- Prices do not include registry fees (this can add as much as £80 + VAT to the total cost)
- The registrar registers the names in their name - therefore you are not the legal owner of the name!!
- There are "hidden" transfer or release fees should you want to move the domain to another ISP (we have seen charges of up to £150 + VAT for this!)
- Registrars charge extra for "Domain Management" (useful if you have your own web server etc.) or will not allow you or charge extra to redelegate if you want to use your own DNS servers.
Please remember our charge for .uk domains covers the domain name for 2 years (equivalent to only £15 + VAT per year) and includes the registrars fee.
When we register a name - we register it for you
so you are the legal owner of your domain name. Plus we do not charge a transfer or release fee if you choose to move it to another ISP and we include DNS management as standard!
